Volvo service from city to Delhi airport to resume soon

LUDHIANA: Even as the State Transport Department has decided to resume its luxury bus services from Jalandhar to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi securing the national tourist permit, it is yet to take a call on resuming the Volvo bus service of the Punjab Roadways from Ludhiana to the New Delhi airport.

Even as the State Transport Department has decided to resume its luxury bus services from Jalandhar to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi securing the national tourist permit, it is yet to take a call on resuming the Volvo bus service of the Punjab Roadways from Ludhiana to the New Delhi airport. However, a decision is expected to be taken in this regard in the next few days.

Sources in the Transport Department said earlier, the Punjab Roadways Volvo service from Ludhiana to the New Delhi airport used to first stop at the Inter-State Bus Terminal, but now, the authorities were mulling direct bus service to the airport.

“First, we will see the response of the buses to ply between Jalandhar and New Delhi airport. If these buses get good response from the commuters, we will also start Volvo service to the Delhi airport. A decision in this direction will be taken within one week,” said a Punjab Roadways official privy to development.

The Punjab Roadways had suspended its Volvo service to the Delhi airport after the Delhi Government had impounded several buses of the Punjab Roadways last month on the ground that they had state carriage permits which allowed them to bring passengers only till the Inter-State Bus Terminal.
