Ludhiana, February 14
As the civic body has allegedly failed to resolve the issue of choked sewers and contaminated water supply, the councillor from ward 85, along with a number of local residents, staged a protest against the authorities at the MC sub-office near Daresi Ground today.
The protesters warned that if the issue was not resolved, they would stage a protest outside the MC Commissioner office next week.
The BJP councilor, Sunita Rani, said there was a major problem of choked sewers and contaminated water supply in Gandhi Nagar, Fatehgarh Mohalla and Basant Nagar in ward 85. She claimed that the dirty water mixed with water supply due to overflowing sewers. Many residents have been suffering a lot due to this problem for the past few months.
The councillor said they had brought the matter to the notice of the higher officials, but they took no action to get the problem resolved to date. The MC authorities focus only on Civil Lines or other developed areas but ignore the other areas, she alleged.
A resident said: “There is a brigade of senior officials in the Municipal Corporation but our issues are not being resolved. The officials should come out of their offices and visit the streets to see our plight. The Department of Local Government should direct the MC authorities to ensure early redressal of our grievances otherwise we will be forced to state more protests.”
