Raikot, December 7

A widow of Bisrawan village and her physically challenged son were found dead at their home last night.

The deceased have been identified as Gurjit Kaur (55) and Pardeep Singh (26).

Though the police are yet to find some clue to the double murder, it is suspected that the accused killed them with intent to rob them.

Residents came to know about the murder after a relative came to meet the family.

The Sadar police have initiated probe into the sequence of events leading to the tragedy after registering a murder case against unidentified assailants.

Investigations led by SHO Sadar Nidhan Singh and SHO City Amarjit Singh revealed that Gurjit Kaur and her son Pardeep Singh had been living at their village in penury, as their land holding was merely 4 bighas and the rent was not enough to run the family. Gurjit Kaur was last seen by villagers on Friday afternoon and nobody bothered to check why the doors of their home were open till 11am, when one of the relatives of the family came to meet them and villagers found their bodies lying in a pool of blood. The body of Gurjit Kaur was found on the bed, whereas that of Pardeep on the floor.

Sources close to the family said the deceased received the rent of land on Friday.

DSP Dilbag Singh supervised the investigations initiated by Nidhan Singh and Amarjit Singh.
