Will mandate PCR pilot for ambulances: Humans rights panel member
Jitender Singh Shunty addresses grievance meet in Malerkotla
The police will have to soon have to ensure that a PCR pilot vehicle moves with ambulances to ensure that the life of a patient being shifted can be saved, said Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) member Jitender Singh Shunty.
He said an advisory to the effect will soon be issued by the commission.
According to Shunty, the commission has also initiated a process for constituting core groups from all regions. These groups, with 15 members each, will work for protection of human rights by acting as a bridge between the commission and the target groups. The commission has invited applications from the aspirants by February 19 so that the final list of core groups can be announced by February 28.
Shunty made these announcements on Saturday while addressing the concluding session of a grievance meeting here.
The event was organised under the banner of Varisan E Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan Virsa Sambhal Committee, Malerkotla, led by chairperson Nadim Anwar Khan.
Highlighting the latest steps taken by the commission to protect constitutional rights of all citizens, Shunty highlighted that the panel has issued an advisory to check the practice of hospitals withholding bodies of deceased on pretext of non-payment of bills.
“Besides ensuring handing over of the body to the family already in distress, we advised owners and managers of all healthcare centres to ensure that separate lavatories and restrooms are earmarked for women,” said Shunty, adding that hospitals were asked to install boards displaying the latest advisory.
He said a second advisory was issued to authorities at civic bodies and contractors employing sanitary workers who were forced to work under hazardous conditions. According to the advisory, all sanitary workers should be provided safety gadgets according to the guidelines issued from time to time.
“The third advisory that will be soon issued provides for PCR van ahead of ambulances as a pilot on being requisitioned on 112 helpline,” added Shunty.
Taking cognisance of the alleged inadequate and insanitary conditions observed during his tour ahead of the meeting, Shunty advised executive officer Chandar Parkash Wadhwa to ensure that all garbage dumps, including one near bus stand, were removed within a stipulated period. He advised the Malerkotla civil surgeon to ensure that basic amenities are available round-the-clock to all visitors.
