Woman commits suicide; husband among 6 booked

Ludhiana, September 17

A 40-year-old married woman, Kamlesh Rani, committed suicide by consuming poison at her house in Jhuggian Kadar village here.

On the basis of a suicide note, a case of abetment to suicide was registered against the deceased’s husband Mahinder Pal, her sister-in-law Shinder Kaur, Shinder’s daughter Pawandeep Kaur, Shinder’s son Kulvir Singh, Mahinder’s friend Ajay Kumar and Mandeep Singh.

The complainant, deceased’s brother Jasvir Singh, said his sister got married to Mahinder about 12 years ago. Now, for the past few years, Mahinder had been torturing the deceased and he had even started living with his sister-in-law (his brother’s wife). Mahinder had even taken their two daughters along with him and the deceased was left alone in the house.

Yesterday evening, he badly beaten Kamlesh following which she consumed some poisonous substance. The village sarpanch had rushed the victim to the Civil Hospital where she breathed her last.

Investigating officer ASI Harmesh Lal said the woman had also left behind a suicide note on the basis of which an abetment to suicide case was registered yesterday against the accused and raids were being conducted to nab them.
