Woman, daughter commit suicide

A 36-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from a ceiling fan at their residence in Haibowal Kalan on the Jassian road last night.

The woman died on the spot, while her daughter remained under critical condition at a hospital and breathed her last late this evening.

The woman reportedly committed suicide after an altercation with her neighbour, whose relative had allegedly sent an objectionable message to the daughter of the deceased.

The deceased were identified as Kirandeep Kaur and her daughter Priya.

As per the husband of the deceased woman, Sonu, last night at around 8 pm, he got a call from

his wife who asked for dinner. Since he was busy somewhere, he told his wife that he would come after sometime.

Later, when he again called his wife, she didn’t pick the phone. At around 10.30 pm when he reached home, the main door was lying locked, he said. When he peeped inside the lobby through the net door, he was shocked to see the hanging body of his daughter.

Sonu said he then broke open the net of the door and opened the door. Her daughter was in a critical condition and was rushed to hospital. After struggling for life at the hospital, she died today.

Sonu said his wife was also hanging from the fan, and was already dead.

The suicide note of his wife was also recovered from the room in which she had held one fruit vendor of Noorawala road and one woman neighbour responsible for their death.

On the basis of the suicide note, the police registered a case of abetment to suicide against the neighbour of the deceased Anu, one Tony and his wife Nidhi of the Noorawala road. Tony was the one who had sent objectionable message to the daughter of the deceased. On Friday night, Tony had visited Anu’s house and he had again passed objectionable remarks against the girl due to which an altercation took place, forcing the woman to take the extreme step.
