Woman found dead, parents allege dowry harassment

LUDHIANA: A 22-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Ram Nagar in Jamalpur. Suspecting dowry death, woman’s kin sought action against her husband and in-laws.

A 22-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Ram Nagar in Jamalpur. Suspecting dowry death, woman’s kin sought action against her husband and in-laws.

The deceased has been identified as Preeti. Woman’s father Shailender, sought action against his daughter’s in-laws. Investigation Officer ASI Jaswinder Singh said the woman got married recently and her health deteriorated in the afternoon. Her in-laws rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

The kin alleged that their daughter was killed due to dowry demand by her husband and in-laws. The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPc, adding that in case anything suspicious came out in the medical report, then action would be taken accordingly against the woman’s husband and in-laws.

Married man found dead

A married man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Subash Nagar on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Amit Kumar (30) of Daresi. He left behind his seven-month-pregnant wife. He runs an auto-rickshaw along with his father Mahesh Kumar. He was reportedly missing since Friday evening and his family was searching for him. On Saturday, a passerby noticed a man lying in an unconscious state on a road in Subash Nagar and informed the police. When the police reached the spot, they found the man lying dead. Sources said the deceased was a drug addict and he died due to drug overdose. Investigating officer Janakraj said in a statement given by the family, they stated that the deceased was not mentally fit. Since the family has not suspected any foul play, the police initiated the inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPc.
