As the police is tightening noose on drug smugglers, the peddlers are finding some innovative ways for smuggling of drugs.

Yesterday, a party of Khanna police recovered 340 gm opium from the specially made hidden space in a portion above the heel of a sleeper of a woman, where today, the police party recovered opium from eatable packets from three persons including a woman.

He said, in the first incident, yesterday a woman named Kamaljit Kaur, a resident of Rouni village near bus stand was arrested. The police party recovered 340 gm opium from the back portion of the sleeper above heel which she was wearing.

The SSP said later after investigation, the police came to know that there was involvement of a 10- year-old minor boy who had brought opium from Delhi to Khanna and handed over this contraband to the woman.

He said that the boy was also arrested later and will be presented in a juvenile court and will be sent to juvenile jail at Faridkot.

The SSP further said that in the wee hours today a police party of Khanna received information about the smuggling of opium and a police party at around 3 am today spotted three persons including a woman going on foot towards Samrala road after coming down from a train.

When the police party searched them they were having packets of eatables in their hands and expressed their ignorance about drugs. When the alert party searched the packets of ‘namkeen’ they were stunned after finding opium inside the packets.
