When they reached the power station in the Giaspura Area, a truck hit their motorcycle from behind and his wife got crushed under its wheels. The deceased has been identified as Gudia (32). The Focal Point police have registered a case under Section 279 and 304-A of the IPC. TNS

Purse snatched at Civil Lines

The purse of a woman was snatched by motorcycle-borne youths on Hira Singh Road in the Civil Lines area. Deepak Nahauria, a resident of Udham Singh Nagar, told the police that he was with his wife at around 8.45 pm on Sunday evening when two motorcycle-borne persons snatched her purse. It contained Rs 20,000 and important documents. The Division No. 8 police have booked unidentified persons under Section 379 (theft) and 34 (criminal act done by several persons) of the IPC. TNS

Ferrying of people in pick-up vehicles banned in city

Implementing Section 144 of the CrPC, CP RN Dhoke has banned ferrying of people in pick-up vehicles, including three-wheelers, four-wheelers or larger vehicles. He has stated ferrying of people in such vehicles is illegal and against the rules of the Motor Vehicle Act. Such activity leads to accidents at times, because of which valuable lives are also lost.

Mobiles, Rs 7K stolen from shop

Ludhiana: Thieves struck at a shop in the Kailash Cinema road area. In his complaint, Surinder Kumar, a resident of Shahi Mohalla, stated to the police that he had gone back home after closing his mobile shop. The next morning, he found that several mobile handsets of different companies and Rs 7,000 in cash were stolen from his shop. The Division No. 4 police have booked unidentified persons under Sections 457 (house trespass) and 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. TNS

1 held for indecent behaviour

Ludhiana: A man was arrested at Saras Mela for pushing a woman repeatedly. The complainant, a resident of Udham Singh Nagar, stated to the police that when she was shopping at Saras Mela on Sunday, a man repeatedly pushed and behaved indecently with her. The accused has been identified as Anil Kapoor, a resident of the Model Town road area. The police at Panjab Agriculture University has registered a case under Section 354 (assault to woman) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused. TNS
