Woman loses gold earrings to snatchers

Bike-borne accused stop and touch elderly victim’s feet to seek her blessings, ask her for an address before committing the crime

Two bike-borne miscreants snatched gold earrings from an elderly woman in broad daylight in the Haibowal area here on Friday and fled, police said.

The incident was caught on CCTV cameras in the area.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Sant Vihar, Rajan Estate. Kamlesh Rani (68) was sitting alone on a chair in the street. The bike-borne suspects had been roaming in the street for a while. They stopped near her and touched her feet, seeking her blessings.

The suspects asked for someone’s address and as Kamlesh Rani has slight hearing issues, she went closer to listen. Meanwhile, one of the thieves snatched her earrings weighing 8 gm.

The woman tried to chase them, but to no avail. She suffered serious injuries in both ears during the incident.

The CCTV footage shows one of the suspects wearing a helmet while the other was seen wearing a white cap. The bike’s registration plates were also reportedly broken.

Locals questioned police patrolling and demanded increased vigil in the area. The police are searching for the suspects with the help of CCTV footage.
