Ludhiana, August 24

In a gruesome case of assault and murder reported on Saturday evening, the police have arrested Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Baba Jiwan Singh Nagar, and booked at least 10 others. Three of them have been identified as Sunny, a resident of Baba Jiwan Singh Nagar, Jonty and Bhaita, both residents of EWS Colony.

The suspects have been charged under Sections 323, 324, 341, 307, 304, 279, 506, 427, 148 and 149 of the IPC for allegedly killing Nisha and attacking Pankaj, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, and a few others.

In his complaint to the police, Chaturbhuj Tanwar said the prime suspect, Sunny, who was nursing a grudge against his son, Pankaj, called him outside house on phone. When he and his son came out, the suspects attacked both with baseball bats, rods and kirpans.

“Nitin, son of our tenant, who came to our rescue, was also mercilessly beaten. When Nisha (44), wife of the tenant, Vinod Kumar, came out on hearing the alarm, the assailants ran her over with their SUV (PB-10HH-8433). Since the street was closed at one end, the assailants fled the scene leaving their vehicle behind. Nisha was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead,” said the complainant.

The police said they were looking for other suspects involved in the heinous crime.

The police said guests holding a birthday bash in the restaurant created a ruckus. They also exchanged heated words with the restaurant staff over closure time. One of the guests, identified as Abhijit Singh, a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, opened fire and injured Devinder Singh and Sandeep Singh, both employees of the restaurant. Both were admitted to a hospital.

The other suspects booked in the case have been identified as Jagat Singh, a resident of Dugri Phase II; Germanjit Singh, Mudit Sood, Kashish Bhinder, Kuntal Sachdeva, all residents of Baba Nand Singh Nagar, and their unknown accomplices. No arrest has been made so far.
