Ludhiana February 19

The police have arrested a woman, who had stolen a two-day-old girl child from the Civil Hospital on February 10. The ADCP, Gurpreet Singh Sikand, said the suspect identified as Rajvir Kaur of Hoshiarpur was arrested today.

The child was recovered by the police from the Sahnewal airport road on February 14 and was presently undergoing treatment at a hospital, the ADCP added. The infant was handed over to her family, the ADCP said.

The suspect had stolen infant as she could not give birth to child due to some health issues. The entire plot to steal the child was hatched by Rajvir about nine months ago. Since her husband was a truck driver and he remained out of state for months, the suspect lied to him that she was pregnant. After stealing child from the hospital, the suspect informed her husband that she delivered a baby girl.

Later, the suspect started living along with the child at the home of Gurpreet, her husband’s sister, in Jhabewal. When Gurpreet became suspicious about her pregnancy, she asked the suspect to return the child, but the latter left the child at home and fled.

Gurpreet dumped the child on the Sahnewal airport road and herself called the police control room posing as a passerby. The police recovered the child. Later, on checking the CCTV footage cops saw Gurpreet dumping child on the road. The police then rounded up Gurpreet, who revealed that Rajvir had stolen the infant from hospital, which led to latter’s arrest.
