Ludhiana, May 30

A married man was found hanging in a fruit shop at Sabzi Mandi, Haibowal, yesterday. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.

On the basis of a suicide note recovered from the pocket of the deceased, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against seven persons, namely Sonu, Pawan, Pannu, Karan, Kannu, Kannu’s brother-in-law and nephew.

Anand Kumar, brother of the deceased Amrish Kumar (38), a resident of Pavitar Nagar, Haibowal, said his brother worked as supervisor in the vegetable and fruit market owned by a local businessman.

On May 28, he left home without informing the family, and next evening, his body was found hanging at a fruit shop in the market.

Today, Amrish’s kin, requested the police to investigate the matter. They alleged Amrish had warned some market vendors against gambling in the market and they might have killed him. A few days ago, some vendors had thrashed him and threatened him with dire consequences.
