World Kidney Day observed
On the occasion of World Kidney Day, the Department of Nephrology, Urology and Renal Transplant Unit at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital held an awareness event to promote kidney health with this year’s theme “Are Your Kidneys okay? Detect early, protect kidney health”.
The event emphasised the significance of early detection and adherence to the eight golden rules for healthy kidneys, which include maintaining an active lifestyle, controlling blood sugar and blood pressure and avoiding the overuse of over-the-counter painkillers. To raise awareness T-shirts printed with kidney awareness slogans were distributed to the patients as part of the initiative.
In his message, Bipin Gupta, secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, interacted with the patients during the event and met a patient who had been undergoing dialysis at the DMC&H for the past 21 years. She shared her heartfelt views and gratitude. She praised the entire team of DMC&H for their tireless efforts and compassionate care.
Dr GS Wander, principal, DMC&H, highlighted the importance of kidney health and said that kidney disease was often linked with other ailments, including cardiovascular issues. “By promoting kidney health, we are simultaneously encouraging heart health and overall wellness. The DMC&H remains at the forefront of offering comprehensive healthcare services to ensure better treatment for our patients,” the principal said.
Dr Sandeep Sharma, professor & head of Department of Urology, said that kidney health was integral to overall well-being. Early intervention improves the quality of life for patients. Our collective goal is to ensure that people understand the importance of preventive measures.
