The deceased has been identified as Ashwani Kumar, a resident of Tibba Road. Preliminary investigation said he had been staying away from home for a long time and was a drug addict.

The deceased’s brother, Gopi, said: “Ashwani had been a drug addict for years and had not returned home for about a week. We’ve been searching for him relentlessly but did not found any trace of him. This morning, we received a call from the police informing us that his body had been found on Tajpur Road,” he said, expressing grief.

A police official investigating the case, said he received a call from the control room this morning that a youth was lying unconscious by the roadside. He went to the spot with a police team and also informed the family.

He said the body would be handed over to the family after autopsy. Though deceased’s family suspected that drug overdose could be the cause of death as he was a drug addict, the exact cause would be revealed after the post-mortem report.

Anil Bhanot, ACP (Central), said the victim was not staying with his family. Probe had suggested that drug overdose was not the cause rather the autopsy report would only confirm the exact cause of death.
