Ludhiana: Rahul Kumar (22) was killed in a freak accident when a speeding Maruti Brezza (PB 10GL 8613) rammed into a generator under a shed outside the Indian Bank branch at Aarti Steel Chowk. The vehicle hit the generator powerfully that it fell on Rahul, who was sleeping alongside the generator, causing injuries to him. Later, he died at the Civil Hospital. Local residents said the driver fled the spot. The police have identified the accused as Pawan Aheer of Kishore Nagar. He has been booked under Sections 279 and 304-A, IPC. OC

Three nabbed for drug trafficking

Ludhiana: The police have arrested three persons for drug trafficking and made a recovery of 5 gm of heroin and 40 kg of poppy husk. Sohit Kumar of Salem Tabri was arrested with 5 gm of heroin. They were booked under the NDPS Act. Balwant Singh and Avjinder Singh of Umaidpur village were arrested from Dehlon Bypass Chowk on Wednesday and 40 kg of poppy husk was seized from them. The police said they were standing besides their truck (PB 10FF 1198) and on seeing the police, they threw away two heavy plastic bags kept in the tool box. On searching, poppy husk was found in the bags. OC

Vehicles stolen

Ludhiana: One Tata pick-up delivery van was reportedly stolen from outside the office of Sub Registrar (East) in Transport Nagar on January 11. Its owner Kanaik Ram Verma said he parked the van outside office from where it was stolen. Sirajjudin reported to the police that his Hero Splendor motorcycle , parked outside a factory in Focal Point, Phase VI, was stolen. Deepak Mehta told the police that his Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle parked outside Vishal Mega Mart, Sector 32, was stolen on January 11.
