Ludhiana, February 19

A 21-year-old youth identified as Sarvan Rishi, a native of Bihar, presently living in Ludhiana, was arrested by the police on the charge of kidnapping a five-year-old girl for committing rape.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner (CP) Rakesh Agrawal said yesterday at 7 pm, a girl was playing outside her house on the Bhamian road when the suspect kidnapped her.

As the victim’s family came to know about her kidnapping, they raised an alarm and called at the police control room number.

The CP said taking the complaint seriously, the area police station head along with senior cops rushed to the spot and launched an extensive search. Within an hour, the suspect was traced at some abandoned room in the agricultural fields of the area at around 8 pm.

“The suspect had consumed a bottle of liquor, removed girl’s clothes and was about to rape her. Before he could sexually assault the girl child, the police team cornered the suspect and arrested him,” the CP added.

The child was safely recovered by the police and handed over to her family after conducting medical examination, the CP said.
