A video from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh has gone viral on social media, showing a woman assaulting her elderly mother-in-law. The incident, which took place in Adarsh Colony on Friday, has left the victim’s son fearing for his and his mother’s lives—especially in light of the recent murder case in Meerut.

Vishal Batra, who runs a car spare parts business, and his mother Sarla Batra have filed a police complaint alleging that members of his wife Neelika’s family forcibly entered their home and physically assaulted them over what he described as a “small issue”. He claims the tension escalated after he refused Neelika’s repeated demands to send his mother to an old-age home.

Sarla said Neelika called her father and brother to their house on the afternoon of April 1. CCTV footage captured the moment when her father entered and slapped Vishal. As he tried to defend himself, some others barged in and started beating him.

The most disturbing part of the footage shows Neelika dragging her mother-in-law by the hair and punching her, as the elderly woman tried to protect her son. Their minor son, who appeared visibly frightened, was also present during the attack.

According to reports by NDTV, Sarla alleged that Neelika’s father and brother threatened to kill them. The mother and son have since left their house.

On Friday, they met the Superintendent of Police, after which Deputy Superintendent Vishal Batra assured strict action would be taken.
