  • The religious procession, which commenced from the Ranbireshwar temple on the Shalamar road, passed through various markets of the city, including Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, Purani Mandi and Panjtirthi and concluded at Ranbireshwar temple
  • To avoid any untoward incident during the procession, unprecedented security arrangements had been made in the city.

An impressive “shobha yatra” was taken out in the city on the eve of Mahashivratri on Thursday.

The religious procession, which commenced from the Ranbireshwar temple on the Shalamar road, passed through various markets of the city, including Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, Purani Mandi and Panjtirthi and concluded at Ranbireshwar temple.

The route of the procession was decorated with buntings and flowers at various points while people showered petals as the religious procession passed through the markets.

People and saints from different areas of the city, participated in the huge procession, which consisted of tableau depicting mythical scenes and events related to the marriage of Lord Shiva with Parvati.

The city wore a festive look as people enroute had decorated their markets with banners, buntings and welcome gates. A beeline of residents eagerly waited alongside the roads to have a glimpse of the “shobha yatra”.

To avoid any untoward incident during the procession, unprecedented security arrangements had been made in the city. A large number of police personnel, including the police CISF and CRPF men were deployed en-route while the procession was virtually cordoned by security personnel.

Meanwhile, on the eve of Mahashivratri, all temples in the city have been decorated with lights and buntings. Grand functions will be held at Ranbireshwar Temple, Peer Kho Temple and Panjbakhter Temple and other temples of the city tomorrow.

On the eve of Mahashivratri, four-day mela at Peer Kho and Shiv Khori also commenced on Thursday, which is being organised by the Department of Tourism in association with the district administration.

Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country visit the holy shrines during this annual mela at Peer Kho in Jammu and Shiv khori in Reasi district.
