Ludhiana, January 17

A scooterist was crushed to death under the wheels of a speeding truck on Gill Road last night. The person riding pillion died on the spot while the rider suffered injuries.

People nab fleeing truck driver

  • After the accident, the truck driver stopped the truck and attempted to flee the spot. But people gathered there and nabbed him. He was handed over to the police.

The deceased has been identified as Parveen Kumar (45), a resident of Indira Nagar.

Division 6 SHO Amarjit Singh said Parveen worked at some accessories shop on Gill Road. Last night, he, along with his friend, was returning home on a scooter when a rashly driven truck hit their scooter from behind, killing Parveen on the spot.

After the accident, the truck driver stopped the truck and attempted to flee the spot. But people gathered there and nabbed him. He was later handed over to the police.

After receiving information, the police immediately reached the spot and started investigation. Since the accident occurred in the middle of the road, the traffic had remained disrupted for over an hour. The police took the truck to the police station and removed the mangles remain of the scooter from road.

Parveen is survived by his wife and son (10). The truck driver has been booked under section 304 A of the IPC.
