Chandigarh, January 16

A 35-year-old man has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter, who was found four-month pregnant.

The police said the incident came to light this morning following which an investigation was initiated. It revealed that the victim’s father, a resident of Kajheri village, Sector 52, was sexually abusing his daughter for the past few months. The police said the suspect, a labourer, had five children. Last year, he fought with his wife and sent her back to their native village in Uttar Pradesh. The children were taken by their aunt, who lives in Chandigarh. However, the suspect brought them back. Later, he sexually harassed his minor daughter. Sources said the suspect had threatened his daughter not to reveal this to anyone and he had told her that he would marry her. He even made her keep a fast on Karva Chauth.

The police said the victim’s medical examination was conducted. A case has been registered against her father under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC and Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act at the Sector 36 police station.
