Chandigarh MC reinvites bids for ads on toilet blocks, unipoles

Chandigarh, February 13

The cash-starved Municipal Corporation today reinvited bids for 24 unipole sites and advertisement display on 55 public toilet blocks through e-auction.

Bidders can file technical bids for unipoles with the MC till February 24. While the technical bids will be opened on February 25, the e-auction will be held at the MC office on March 3 from 10 am to 6 pm.

The civic body is holding the e-auction in Group A and B for five years on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis in lieu of licence and advertising fee. The city will have unipoles for the first time. At present, such unipoles are installed in the neighbouring Panchkula and Mohali.

The tenders floated earlier were cancelled after the Selvel company, one of the biggest alleged defaulters of the corporation, filed a complaint against one of the companies which had filed the highest bids. The issue had also rocked the MC House.

The technical bids for ads on toilet blocks have been invited till March 3. The e-auction will be held on March 13 from 9 am to 5 pm. It was also previously cancelled after no firm participated in the technical bid, an MC official said.

The bids are invited on the basis of licence fee on a “as-is-where-is” basis. In addition to this, the bidder also has to pay the advertisement fee. The bids are invited for a one-year period and can be extended for another year. The ad will have an LED display, which will be done by the bidder at his own cost.

However, questions are being raised over the failure of the civic body to allot tenders for a long time, which has caused a huge loss to the corporation.
