Chandigarh MC should seek expert help: Panel

Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, February 13

A monitoring committee yesterday submitted before the NGT that the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation should engage the services of experts from the IIT-Roorkee/ IIT-Delhi to assess the efficiency of the machinery available at the solid waste processing plant in 15 days and work may be allotted to the institution in 10 days.

“If after study/assessment, it is observed that the machinery at the plant site require repairs/renovation, the same may be carried out by plant management in 3 months,” the report stated.

“The MC shall also get an expert opinion about the conversion of existing plant into waste to energy plant. The project proponent shall use and operate only Thermax made furnace, which is operated at 1000° C (at this temperature, the toxic gases like furan and dioxin are almost eliminated) to generate hot air for the removal of moisture from the solid waste, “ it added. Meanwhile, the NGT has left it on the MC whether it wants to keep the contract with Jaypee.
