A militant shot dead by security forces after he killed a truck driver was identified as being affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, a press release from Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Tuesday.

The militant has been identified as Ajaz Ahmad Malik from Dardsun, a village in Kupwara.

Police records show Malik is suspected to have been involved in several cases of terrorism, including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities, the press release says.

The truck driver, Narayan Dutt, from Jammu’s Katra, was shot by militants on Monday evening at Anantnag’s  Bijbehara.  Police claim the militant was killed in a shootout that followed at a place not more than 200 metres from where Dutt was shot dead.
