Nawanshahr, January 27

“To facilitate youngsters with hassle-free access to the facility of learning licence, the Punjab Transport Department has authorised all 515 Sewa Kendras of the state for providing the service,” said state Transport Minister Razia Sultana.

She unfurled the national flag here on the occasion of Republic Day.

Inaugurating the statewide learning licence service through Sewa Kendras from Nawanshahr, she said earlier it was limited to the SDM and Transport Department offices only.

“Taking view of the overburdening of work in these offices and inconvenience faced by applicants, the state government has decided to extend the service through Sewa Kendras under the aegis of the Governance Reforms Department,” she said.

The minister said the department had issued approximately 5.57 lakh learning and 8.54 lakh driving licences previous year. She also made it clear that there was no ban on the allocation of minibus permits and anyone who wants to ply minibus on the rural route could apply for the same.

At the historical museum of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh in Khatkar Kalan, a special portrait, prepared by Punjab and Haryana High Court lawyer Harpreet Sandhu, depicting ‘Empower women for growth and development of the nation,” was launched by the minister. Sandhu said through his slogan ‘Empower women for growth and development of the nation’ on the Republic Day, he wanted to spread a message that everyone must ensure that the future for women is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.

“Education for girls must be made compulsory so that women can become their life easy. We should also inspire women and promote the cause of social and gender equality,” he said. The initiative was appreciated by one and all.
