Mochpura residents forcibly open way leading to gurdwara

Several shopkeepers of Mochpura Bazaar and residents of the area today forcibly opened the way leading to the gurdwara. The way was blocked by a person who claimed himself the owner of the place and people of the area had been demanding opening of the way.

People had also submitted a complaint to the Police Commissioner demanding action against the person, who is at the helm of the place, for not letting the people to pay obeisance at the gurdwara.

Gurpreet Khurana, former councillor of the area, said today, a large number of people had gathered and they broke the temporary plywood wall, opening the way leading to the Gurdwara Bhai Bhagwan Singh. This gurdwara existed since pre-Partition time.

Jagjit Singh, who controls the place and whose shop was removed to open the way to the gurdwara, said he had made a complaint against the person who broke his shop’s wall. He said he had rented the place from Waqf Board and the market people were deliberately creating nuisance.

While the local residents were removing the wall, the situation turned tense.

A team, led by ACP Waryam Singh and SHO of Division 3, reached the spot. The police are yet to register a case.
