To familiarise the students about the importance of Constitution, their rights and duties towards the nation, two-day Model Youth Parliament-2020 was held today at the Punjab University Regional Centre (PURC) here in which MP From Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu was the chief guest.

The event witnessed participation not just from Punjab but from far off states such as West Bengal.

Today, such model parliaments are organised all over the country in about 8,000 institutions and lakhs of students participate in the event. The PURC started organising these parliaments from 2017 and it is their second such parliament. Prof Davinder Singh from the Department of Law, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Prof Arti Puri introduced the event to the audience and gave insight above the reorganised issues of Lok Sabha i.e. The Citizenship Act 2019 and One Nation One Election.

In the first session, Citizenship Amendment Act was discussed taking in account the right to equality and principle of secularism enshrined in the constitution. Students were divided into different portfolios and they expressed their opinions about the pros and cons of the Act.

The second session was based on the issue One Nation-One Election. Different portfolios depicted different perspectives of elections, its loopholes, its advantages and how the elections can be improved.
