To ensure smooth door-to-door supply of essential items, including vegetables, fruits and groceries, the Mohali administration has pressed 100 vendors into service.

Girish Dayalan, Deputy Commissioner, said the supply of essentials in the district was smoothly in various parts of the city.

Dayalan said 100 vendors carrying essential supplies were sent off from police stations to various areas in the district. He said a total of six teams had been deployed for effective supervision.

The DC said the supply process was transparent and smooth under the supervision of District Mandi Officer Harbhajan Kaur, Tehsildar Mohali Ravinder Bansal, Naib Tehsildar Gurpreet Gill and Kharar Market Committee Secretary Archana Bansal.

He said to ensure the continued supply of essential goods and services during the curfew, the district administration has permitted unhindered movement of selected vehicles during curfew. These include vehicles engaged in carrying food items such as vegetables, groceries, eggs and meat. Those carrying green and dry fodder for animals and poultry and piggery feed have also been allowed.

He said ATM cash vans, LPG delivery vehicles, oil containers/ tankers, home/ door-to-door delivery of milk, vegetables, medicines and food items have been allowed movement. He said the movement of farmers/ farm labourer going to work in field in rural areas had also been allowed. However, they shall maintain social distance guidelines and there should be no assembly of more than five persons, he added.

He said the Department of Home Affairs, Punjab, has already been granted permission for transportation of essential supplies across the state with a maximum of two persons per vehicle. — TNS
