Mohali, March 27

To provide people with essential supplies on their doorstep during the curfew, the district administration has roped in e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Flipkart.

Fixed rates

As per the rates fixed now, potatoes will be sold for Rs50 per kg, onion Rs45 per kg, peas Rs120 per kg, tomato Rs60 per kg, cauliflower Rs40 per kg, bunch of ‘spinach’ and ‘palak’ and fenugreek (methi) for Rs10-15.

The staff of the companies would bring the essential supplies from the company warehouses and deliver the same to the public at their doorsteps.

Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said apart from this, Swiggy would also depute its 400 delivery executives for carrying essential supplies to the doorsteps of people. In one day, Swiggy would undertake 3,000-4,000 deliveries in the district. He said the step has been taken in the wake of the curfew due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Girish Dayalan said Verka had supplied 80,576 litres of milk in the district and besides this, small dairy owners had also supplied door-to-door milk to residents. On an average, Verka supplies 65,000 litres of milk every day but keeping in view the shortage of milk caused due to the curfew, it has increased its supply by about 15,000 litres.

Similarly, 39-tonne vegetables had been purchased owing to the arrangements made by the District Mandi Officer. To keep tabs over black marketing, the Deputy Commissioner has fixed the rates of vegetables. As per the rates fixed now, potatoes will be sold for Rs 50 per kg, onion Rs 45 per kg, peas Rs 120 per kg, tomatoRs 60 per kg, cauliflower Rs 40 per kg, bunch of ‘spinach’ and ‘palak’ and fenugreek (methi) for Rs 10-15.
