This jatt, truly carries on

Creativity is not competition, creativity is growth and it is always unique to itself, just like this week’s Punjabi film release Carry On Jatta 2, which inarguably stands on its own, steers clear of any comparisons with its own prequel.

 Although a sequel to a cult comedy film, Carry On Jatta 2 does not let you knock on the door of Carry On Jatta. Even though the sequel repeats all the characters and also the sequence of events, it is as fresh as a freshly baked new joke! Directed yet again by Smeep Kang, this comedy of errors does what everybody expected it to do, it makes you roll in the aisles, you wouldn’t die of heat or of rising petrol and diesel prices but you can certainly die laughing!

Despite the pressure and the expectations, Smeep Kang has created an all new-story in Carry On Jatta 2. The director has not only balanced a battery of fine actor-comedians, he has justified every character’s presence on the scene. 

 The one-liners and punches are new, but some punches like Dhillon ne kaala coat aavian nai paaya have been taken forward by giving it a new humorous shape. The only driving force of Carry On Jatta 2 is comedy and the director ensures that there is a good laugh in every scene. 

Even though two back to back songs in the beginning do irk a bit, but while wiping those tears of laughter one tends to forget everything.

Carry On Jatta 2 has stylized fantastic cinematography and also witty and fast-paced dialogues. It is really hard to say which actor performed better in Carry On Jatta 2 because each one of them is brilliant. The trio of Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon and Gurpreet Ghuggi is unbeatable. Their easy breezy natural style of comedy doesn’t leave a single dull moment in the film.

Actor comedian Jaswinder Bhalla is as usual in a great form. His one-liners and punches are super funny, stealing the show. Though we’d expect to see more rib tickling comedy from BN Sharma, the artiste does give us some spontaneous laughter moments, the same holds true for yet another fine actor comedian Karamjit Anmol who has a knack of giving humour a new dress code. Though we’d expected so much more from Upasana Singh, her role disappointed us no end. Actress Sonam Bajwa brightens up the screen with her beautiful smile and her bright and stylish clothes. It goes without saying that Sonam Bajwa is the most stylish actress of the Punjabi film industry who has successfully broken the stereotype image of how a Punjabi actress should dress up on screen.

Jassi Katyal, Gurmeet Singh and Sukhe Musical Doctorz’ music is peppy, youthful and floor tapping. In the end, Carry On Jatta 2 promises to leave you in splits, even with a Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron kind of climax. The film is indeed a side-splitting ride, just hop on without the popcorns of course! (You won’t be sitting still for a moment).
