A 42-year-old Ram Darbar resident has been arrested by the local police with fake currency, 50 gm of heroin, a country-made pistol and five live cartridges. The suspect is a musician, who plays octapad in parties.

The police said they had a tip-off that the suspect, Sagar, would be arriving near the Japanese Garden, Sector 31, to supply drugs.

Sub-Inspector Sarita Roy laid a naka near the Japanese Garden last evening. In the meantime, Sagar arrived in a white Accent car. The police stopped the car and asked the driver, Sagar, to come out of the vehicle. The police said they found that he was carrying a country-made pistol.

The police then conducted a personal search of the suspect and found 50 gm of heroin, five cartridges and Rs 39,900 in fake currency from his pocket.

During interrogation, he stated that he had purchased the pistol for Rs 15,000 from Kala of Uttar Pradesh and he procured the fake currency from Ruby, a resident of Yamunanagar.

“He purchased heroin from a Nigerian national, based in New Delhi.

The drug was meant to be sold to drug addicts in the tricity,” said a police official.

The police said that a case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act, Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act and Section 489 C (possession of forged counterfeit currency notes or bank notes) of the Indian Penal Code had been registered against the suspect at the Sector 31 police station.

He was produced in a court, which remanded him in two-day police custody.
