32 yrs after FIR, former IAS officer convicted

NEW DELHI:A local court on Fridayconvicted a retired Nagaland cadre IAS officer of 1969 batch, SS Ahluwalia, for possessing firearms.



New Delhi, September 6

A local court on Friday convicted a retired Nagaland cadre IAS officer of 1969 batch, SS Ahluwalia, for possessing firearms. 

“SS Ahluwalia, IAS (retired), then Secretary & Commissioner, Labour & Employment, Nagaland, has been sentenced to undergo five-year rigorous imprisonment with total fine of Rs 1,50,000,” officials said. 

The CBI registered a case on August 31, 1987, against Ahluwalia on the allegations of possession of five firearms and large quantity of ammunition at his official residences here and Kohima. “A chargesheet was filed on April 10, 1992, in the designated court. Charges were framed against the accused on February 10, 2010,” agency officials said, adding that after a prolonged trial “the accused was held guilty and convicted by the court”.

The CBI conducted raids at the residence of the retired officer here on March 26, 1987, and recovered one .38 bore revolver, along with 74 cartridges with licence, one pistol with 32 cartridges with licence, one rifle of Czechoslovakia make and one carbine with magazine among other things. — TNS
