The government today informed Parliament that over 93,000 cyber crimes registered so far in the country between 2017 and 2019 concerned financial fraud, sexual exploitation and spreading of hate.
Replying to a written question in Rajya Sabha Minister of State (MoS) for Home G Kishan Reddy said due to the enhanced use of Internet, the number of cyber crimes was increasing. As per data maintained and published by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 21,796 cyber crimes were registered in 2017, 27,248 in 2018 and 44,546 in 2019. “The motive behind cyber crimes in the country include personal revenge, fraud, sexual exploitation, inciting hate, spreading piracy, stealing information etc,” Reddy said. — TNS
