Actor Dalip Tahil was arrested on Sunday night for driving under the influence of alcohol after the car he was driving bumped into an auto-rickshaw causing minor injuries to the two passengers inside, police said.

According to the Khar police, Tahil was driving when his car bumped into an auto-rickshaw in front of him.

Two passengers in the auto, Jenita Gandhi (21) and Gaurav Chugh (22), who were jolted by the impact, told the police that Tahil tried to drive away instead of trying to help them.

However, the road ahead was blocked by a procession taking idols of Lord Ganesha for immersion and Tahil was
forced to stop his car, the complaint said.

Police said Gandhi and Chugh asked Tahil to get out of the vehicle and there was an argument between the two parties.

Police personnel who were part of the procession took both parties to the police station.

Blood tests were conducted on all three of them and it was revealed that Tahil had consumed alcohol, the duty officer at the Khar police station said.

Later in the night, the actor was released on bail after a criminal complaint was filed against him, police said.

He will, however, have to appear before the traffic court when summoned, the officer added.
