The BJP today gave call for a state-wide 12-hour bandh in West Bengal on September 26 in protest against alleged police firing on agitators who were protesting against recruitment of Urdu teachers in a school that reportedly had requirement of teachers in other subjects.
Two youths, both former students of the school, were killed in the incident that took place in Islampur in North Dinajpur district of the state.
On September 20, students of the school staged a protest demanding appointment of teachers for science and literature and opposing appointment of Urdu teachers.
The protest led to a clash between them and the police in which a former student Rajesh Sarkar died and another got severely injured.
Injured student Tapas Barman also later died in North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
