The Congress is all set to gamble big in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections with party general secretary in charge of the state Priyanka Gandhi Vadra pledging 40 per cent tickets for women to make them “equal partners in power” and unveiling the slogan “ladki hoon lad sakti hoon”.
It’s Sheer Drama: Mayawati
Why didn’t the Congress-led UPA govt reserve 33% seats for women in Parliament and assemblies when it was in power at the Centre for 10 years? — Mayawati, BSP Chief
Priyanka made her first election announcement from Lucknow today to the bursting of crackers by Congress women workers assembled to hear her, but remained non-committal on whether or not she would fight the 2022 elections or lead the party as a chief ministerial face in UP.
“We will see about that later. I will tell you when I want to,” said Priyanka when asked if she would be the Congress’ CM face in the state, where the grand old party had won only seven out of 403 seats in the 2012 elections contesting in alliance with the SP.
The SP-Congress combine was reduced to 55 seats with the BJP winning three-fourths majority (325 seats) and the BSP 19 seats.
