Bhopal/Lucknow, July 9
Fugitive Vikas Dubey was arrested outside a temple in Ujjain early today after purchasing an entry ticket to the shrine, ending a six-day manhunt for the gangster accused of masterminding an ambush that left eight cops dead outside his home in Kanpur.
MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra said two of Dubey’s aides were also held. “Dubey arrived at the (Mahakal) temple in a car. A cop identified him first, after which three others (security personnel) were alerted and he was taken aside for questioning and later arrested,” he said.
SP member: Mother
Dubey’s mother Sarla Devi said he was with the SP, a claim denied by the party. In a 2017 video, Dubey was heard claiming two BJP MLAs had helped him in the past.
However, temple sources claimed Dubey bought a Rs 250 ticket from a counter. As he went to a shop to buy prasad, the shop owner identified him and alerted the police. Cops and private guards deployed there nabbed him, they said. Meanwhile, two more aides, including Kartikeya who was arrested from Faridabad yesterday, were gunned down in in UP. Kartikeya tried to flee after snatching a cop’s pistol, the police claimed. — PTI
