New Delhi, August 6

Sikhs in the US on Friday commemorated the 10th anniversary of the mass shooting at the gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, by a white supremacist. It was the deadliest act of anti-Sikh hate in US history that took the lives of seven worshippers while they were praying.

While remembering the incident, Sikh Coordination Committee East Coast (SCCEC) and American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) also recalled the church mass shooting in Charleston where nine black worshipers were shot in 2015 and a synagogue in Pittsburgh where 11 worshipers were slain in 2018.

We must do more to defeat domestic terrorism and hate in all its forms, including the poison of white supremacy. —Joe Biden, US President

“On this day, we join the call to US Congress by the Sikh Coalition to pass the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act,” said a statement issued by Himmat Singh (SCCEC) and Pritpal Singh (AGPC).

United Sikhs also remembered Paramjit Kaur, Prakash Singh, Ranjit Singh, Satwant Singh Kaleka, Sita Singh, Subeg Singh Khattra who died on the spot and Punjab Singh who passed away later.
