In a purported video clip that has gone viral on social media, a number of Delhi policemen are seen thrashing a Gramin Sewa driver, Sarabjeet Singh, and his son Balwant Singh with batons and dragging them on road in the Mukherjee Nagar area. Sarabjeet Singh is also seen brandishing a sword and attacking the policemen.

Following the widespread condemnation of the violent incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed report from the Delhi Police. Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said he had spoken to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and asked him to take immediate action and submit a detailed report into the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma, who is also the spokesperson of the Delhi Police, said: “Assistant Sub-Inspectors Sanjay Malik and Devender and Constable Pushpender have been suspended. Besides, an FIR has been registered again them and a probe has been ordered.”

DCP (North-West) Vijayanta Arya has ordered a separate inquiry led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Assistant Commissioner of Police. DCP Verma said Sarabjeet Singh’s vehicle collided with a police vehicle, resulting in some altercation. Soon, the heated exchange took the shape of attack and counterattack.  Two cross FIRs — one on the basis of a police statement and the other on the basis of Sarabjeet Singh — have been registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station, he added.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa along with Sarabjeet Singh today met the Delhi Police Commissioner, appealing him not to register a cross-FIR.  Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal met Sarabjeet Singh and assured him justice in the case. DGTA, an NGO of Sikhs, has written to Home Minister Amit Shah seeking justice for the Gramin Sewa driver.
