Lucknow, July 13

The priest of a Prayagraj temple, who solemnised the inter-caste marriage of BJP Bareilly MLA Rajesh Misra’s daughter Sakshi Misra to her Dalit husband, Ajitesh Kumar, has now backed out.

The priest of the Ram Janki temple in Prayagraj, Parsuram Das, has termed the marriage certificate of the couple as fake.

Speaking to a news channel, he said weddings do not take place at the temple and neither any marriage certificate is issued. “Nobody knows the persons who are claiming to have got married here, he said.

It is now expected that the couple would ask the court to facilitate the registration of their marriage in court when they appear for the hearing of their case before the Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Govind Mathur on July 15. Sources in touch with the couple claim that the priest is clearly under pressure from the bride’s influential political family now that the case has become so high profile.

In a video which has gone viral on the social media Sakshi, a Brahmin, had asked for police protection claiming that she and her Dalit husband Ajitesh Kumar faced threat to their lives from her father, brother and his friend.  The couple is expected to appear before the Allahabad high court with police protection on July 15.  — TNS
