The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which registered a case yesterday under PMLA in the alleged UP sand mining scam, on Thursday issued summons to four persons, including IAS officer B Chandrakala and a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader for questioning.

ED sources said four persons, named in the FIR registered by the CBI in the case, have been summoned for questioning following the ED filing a criminal case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to probe into the money trail of the proceeds of kickback in the instances of alleged illegal mining in the Hamirpur districts between 2012 and 2016.

The agency will also look for assets of the accused that can be attached under the anti-money laundering law.

The CBI said it is probing the role of ex-UP CM Akhilesh Yadav as he held the mining portfolio during 2012-13, apparently bringing his role under the scanner.
