The Guild said it saluted the courage shown by the women journalists who had come forward against the former editor in view of the #MeToo movement.

It said Akbar’s resignation as Union Minister of State for External Affairs was the result of the courage shown by these women.

It said they now hoped that Akbar would show grace and withdraw the defamation case. It said in case he did not take back the case or filed such cases against the other women, it would offer all support to the women.
