Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said every Indian was indebted to the sacrifices made by Guru Teg Bahadur.
Addressing a function at Red Fort on the opening day of the two-day celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of the Ninth Guru, Shah said, “There is no one in the country who is not overwhelmed by the sacrifices of the Guru. Hindus look up to him with respect and reverence.”
Appreciating the initiatives taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in organising the function, Shah said Modi was the luckiest PM as he was fortunate to have also organised the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.
He said the PM had ensured that the teachings and blessings of Sikh Gurus reached across the world as part of India’s celebrations of 75 years of its Independence. “I feel fortunate that we are celebrating the birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur at the same place (Red Fort) from where ‘fatwa’ was issued against him by then Mughal ruler Aurangzeb,” Shah said. —
