Farmers' forum writes to Centre, rejects proposal to amend farm laws

The farmers’ joint forum on Wednesday morning sent a written reply to the Union government rejecting it’s proposal to amend the farm laws.

Farmer leaders had rejected the proposal on December 9 after a discussion over it. Farmers’ protest entered its 20th day today.

Krantikari Kisan Union state president Darshan Pal in the written reply to the Union government said that all farmer groups have discussed the proposal sent by the government and rejected that unanimously because it was only the written copy of the verbal proposal of the government's representatives on December 5.

The farmer unions also said in their letter to the government to not to tarnish the image of the farmers’ movement and to stop parallel talks with other farmer organisations.

Notably, the Union government sent a proposal with amendments in the three farm laws, to the farmers' joint forum on December 9 after five rounds of talks with the central government were inconclusive.

The farmer leaders had rejected the government's proposal on the same day but didn’t send it to the government in writing.

The Government had said that the farmers’ organizations did not respond to the proposal in writing.

Thousands of farmers are protesting at the Singhu and Tikri border for the past 20 days, against the three farm laws enacted by the central government, in the bone-chilling cold wave.

The Government is ready to amend the farm laws but the farmers’ leaders said that they will not accept anything less than the repeal of the agriculture laws.
