At least five people were killed in different districts of West Bengal on Friday after being struck by lightning, an official of the state disaster management department said.

One death was reported each from Hooghly, Birbhum and North 24 Parganas districts while two people were killed in East Burdwan district, he said.

“All the deaths were caused by lightning (strikes) as it was raining heavily during the afternoon,” the official said.

Over 60 people have died due to lightning strikes in the state so far this year, he said. — PTI
