A group of farmers, including women, removed the foundation stone of the BJP district office laid by party’s state president Om Prakash Dhankar on the Rewari road here on Sunday morning.
The protesters, carrying black flags, reached the site two hours after the foundation-laying ceremony and uprooted the bricks laid for the foundation. They also raised slogans against Dhankar and the BJP-JJP government. The group came here from the Dhansa border (Delhi), where farmers of nearby villages have been staging a dharna for the past several months against the three farm laws.
“The programme was scheduled for 10 am, but the BJP leaders came much earlier fearing resistance from farmers, who are opposing functions of the BJP-JJP leaders as per the instructions of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha. We removed the foundation stone to register our protest,” said Amit, one of the protesters.
Sources said the protesters left the site after an hour.
Neither Dhankar nor BJP district president Vikram Kadian responded to phone calls to get their comments.
