The Haryana Government on Friday unveiled a bonanza for college and university teachers by announcing the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, the first state to do so.

“The recommendations, which will be implemented in seven state universities and government and aided colleges from January 1, 2016, will put an additional burden of Rs 230.6 crore on the state exchequer annually. As many as 5,809 persons on various teaching and non-teaching posts are slated to benefit,” said Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu.

Haryana’s decision comes at a time when other states, including neighbouring Punjab, are dilly-dallying on  implementation of the pay commission report for college and university teachers. Under the new scales, an assistant professor’s monthly salary will range from Rs 57,700 to Rs 79,800, while an associate professor will draw between Rs 79,800 and Rs 1,31,400. For the Registrar and Controller of Examinations, the pay scale has been fixed at Rs 1,44,200, Sub-Registrar and Sub-Controller of Examination Rs 79,800 and Assistant Registrar and Assistant Controller of Examination Rs 56,100.

Those who benefit include 1,990 in government and 2,956 in government-aided colleges. Similarly, 332 employees will benefit in Kurukshetra University; 287 in MDU, Rohtak; 116 in Bhagat Phool Singh Women University, Khanpur Kalan, Sonepat; 64 in Ch Devi Lal University, Sirsa; 34 in Indira Gandhi University, Rewari; 18 in Ch Ranbir Singh University, Jind; and 12 in Ch Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani.
