Alibaug, April 6

As many as 73 cases of cyber crime were registered in Maharashtra's Raigad district in the last 15 months, an official said on Tuesday.

People have been cheated to the tune of over Rs 68 lakh in online marketing among other scams, the official said.

According to the cyber crime department of the Raigad police, in some cases accused harassed women by threatening to release obscene videos of them online.

At least 59 cases of cyber crimes were registered in 2020, of which 18 offences have been solved or probed, he said.

People were cheated of Rs 65.22 lakh in cyber scams in 2020, the official said, adding that 14 offences were registered and Rs 3.21 lakh were lost in scams from January 2021 to March.

Offences include thefts from people's bank accounts and issuing threats to women on social media, the official said. — PTI
