Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in a case registered against him by Uttar Pradesh Police.
Senior advocate Colin Gonsalves mentioned his petition before a Bench led by Justice Indira Banerjee for urgent hearing.
“A look at the FIR shows that there is no crime…there are death threats against him. I am really worried,” Gonsalves told the Bench.
The top court agreed to list it on Friday subject to assignment by the CJI.
He has challenged the Allahabad High Court's order refusing to quash an FIR registered at Sitapur for allegedly calling Hindu saints "hatemongers".
Zubair was arrested by Delhi Police on June 27 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through his tweets. He has also been accused of violating FCRA provisions and destruction of evidence.
