Two persons have been arrested for allegedly waylaying and thrashing a Nuh resident in police presence here yesterday while suspecting he was carrying beef.
The incident triggered communal tension as a video of the victim, Lukman, being beaten up by several bike-borne assailants went viral.
‘CM owes an answer’
Nuh has been harassed in the name of beef, despite the fact that the area has maximum cow rearers in the state. The CM owes an answer to every Meo.
One of the accused has been identified as Pardeep Yadav of Bhiwani while the identity of the other was being ascertained, the police said.
Lukman had visited Sadar Bazaar to deliver a buffalo meat consignment to a shopkeeper on Eid eve when the assailants stopped his vehicle and beat him up in full public view.
The accused then took control of Lukman’s vehicle and drove away along with the victim, who somehow managed to call up his brother. The police were alerted and the vehicle was stopped at a ‘naka’ near Gurugram-Sohna road. The assailants pulled Lukman out and again thrashed him, this time in police presence.
Commissioner of Police KK Rao said they had nabbed two persons even as investigations were on. “We have zero tolerance to any such activity that threatens peace and harmony,” he said. Badhshahpur Station House Officer Deepak Kumar, meanwhile, has been transferred out.
